LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Aug. 1 (PIA) — The municipal government of La Trinidad will soon be signing sisterhood ties with the Vinh Long Province of Vietnam following the formal talks here last week.
On Tuesday, Mayor Edna Tabanda and vice mayor Romeo Salda welcomed the Vietnamese delegates at the La Trinidad Municipal Hall for a week-long visit to the municipality and the province of Benguet.
Tabanda said they have invited the Vietnamese delegates to discuss sisterhood ties and exchange of programs in various areas of development in the fields of education, trade, tourism, agriculture, health and environment.
According to the mayor, the municipal officials of La Trinidad visited to Vinh Long province last year on the invitation of the Vinh Long Community College(VLCC). She said that school officials asked them to recommend a university in Benguet for the said school to have a possible exchange of programs.
Tabanda introduced the Benguet State University that eventually forged a memorandum of understanding with the VLCC and the Vihn Long University of Technology Education (VLUTE).
The agreement forged between BSU and the Vietnamese schools aims to enhance the education system for learning and sharing both culture and language, and exchange professional experiences and teaching – learning methods of the schools.
Tabanda said that part of the visit is the renewal of the MOU and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for the strengthened agreement between the VLUTE and the VLCC and the inclusion of five other schools and colleges in the province of Vinh Long and the BSU.
Nguyen Van Thanh, Vinh Long province Vice Chairman of the People Committee ,said that after the formal talks between the officials of Vietnam and La Trinidad, they recognized the similarities of both in culture and tradition and the economy as well which are big foundation for the cooperation and sisterhood ties.
Thanh said that the strengthening of agreement on the enhancement of education of the universities in both areas will for sure develop the education system and knowledge of the institutions and the establishment of formal relationship of both governments will also be helpful in the development of socio economic relations and conditions.
The Vietnamese delegates are also set to conducting meetings with the provincial officials of Benguet for the possible sisterhood ties of the two provinces.(JDP/ RMC- PIA CAR)
