(Eagle News) — Senator Panfilo Lacson on Wednesday said he would move for the expulsion of senators who will join the House of Representatives in its constituent assembly to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Lacson said he made the suggestion in a caucus of senators on Tuesday.
“Nobody objected,” he said.
“Anyway, as of yesterday, wala namang may plano. I was just concerned that in case of that remote possibility na meron in the future, he or she cannot escape a misdeed that borders on treachery to our senate as an institution,” he added.
He said the Senate “mechanism in the ethics committee” could be used “to execute (his) proposal.”
Several senators have argued that if Congress would convene as a con-ass to amend the Charter, voting should be done separately.
This, they said, was to ensure that the Senate, which has 23 members vis a vis the House’s 242 members, would not be rendered irrelevant.
