MANILA, Philippines — In the absence of a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday (May 27) administered the oath-taking of Vice-Governor Ramil Hernandez as the new Laguna governor replacing Gov. ER Ejercito whom it had earlier disqualified.

Hernandez took his oath as the new Laguna governor in front of Comelec commissioner Elias Yusoph.

He said he would let the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to implement Comelec’s order designating him as the new Laguna governor.

Comelec said that the writ of execution on Gov. Ejercito’s disqualification could be issued Wednesday, May 28.

Once it is issued, Comelec said Ejercito would have no choice but to leave the gubernatorial post.

However, Comelec chair Sixto Brillantes Jr., admitted that the Supreme Court could still issue a temporary restraining order if it would decide to hear out Ejercito’s petition.  If the high court grants Ejercito’s motion for a temporary restraining order, Comelec will not be able to implement the writ, Brillantes said.
