QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Motorcycle riders accompanied by kids may face arrest once the Land Transportation Office and various law enforcement agencies implement Republic Act 10666 or the Children Safety on Motorcycle Act, starting Friday, May 19.
The law forbids minors from riding motorcycles if they cannot reach the foot peg of the motorcycle or grab the waist of the motorcycle driver.
Exempted are motorcycle riders who are carrying children who need emergency medical attention, or other similar circumstances.
Violators will be fined P3,000 on the first offense, P5,000 on the second offense, and P10,000 on the third offense including a month’s suspension of their driver’s license.
“Violation beyond the third time shall result in automatic revocation of the offender’s driver’s license,” according to RA 10666.
