THE Global Online Association for Learning (GOAL), in cooperation with ADEC Innovations and the Commission on Higher Education, conducted Learning Summit 2016 on February 16 to 18, 2016, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
A three-day event that brought together influencers and movers in corporate development and education, Learning Summit 2016 is the fulfillment of GOAL’s mission of immersing education and corporate stakeholders in the changing landscape of learning and development in the digital age.
GOAL is a non-profit association that represents the interest of educational institutions, teachers, students and corporate organizations in promoting and improving online learning globally.
“This Learning Summit is not just a venue that brings together experts and leaders from various industries for knowledge sharing and collaboration. It also advances the eLearning agenda. This is consistent with our impact investing framework and our objective of generating long-term profitability as well as lasting and significant social impact for all stakeholders,” explained ADEC Innovations’ CEO and GOAL Founder James M. Donovan.
With the global landscape of learning and corporate development constantly changing, Learning Summit 2016 provided fresh insights on technologies of learning and related business and knowledge opportunities.
Elliott Masie, one of the world’s most influential personalities in eLearning and CEO of the Masie Center, was the keynote speaker of the event and shared core values and proven methods for learning strategies in his talk “Future-Proofing Learning.” In addition, he challenged the participants to consider the current state of learning strategies and take risks to improve it through emerging technologies in his concluding session, “Dare to be Different: Unconventional Learning.”
According to Masie, to be a trailblazer in eLearning, unconventional learning strategies should be embraced, where Skype, video gaming, tablets and the like are used as technological tools to enhance traditional teaching.
Masie was joined by a roster of world-class speakers for the plenary sessions, including Fulbright-Sycip Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Joanne Scillitoe, UNESCO Southeast Asia Center of Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development Executive Director Dr. Lucio Sia, Asian Development Bank Principal Knowledge Management Specialist Olivier Serrat, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Olivier Fabrice Ochanine, University of the Philippines Open University Chancellor Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso, Ballet Manila CEO Lisa Macuja, Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda and St. Paul University Surigao President Sr. Marie Rosanne Mallillin, among others.
At the Learning Summit, workshops were also held to assist participants in identifying their learning needs and choosing which technologies of learning were best suited for their individual and corporate requirements. Plenary sessions also gave an overview of the impact of digital technology on learning methods around the world and how the Philippines can maximize these emerging opportunities.
