(Eagle News)–The Liberal Party on Saturday, March 9, defended Vice President Leni Robredo from Davao Mayor Sara Duterte’s comments against her.
“Kapag kakampi nila hindi issue ang honesty pero kapag si VP Leni at hindi nila kaalyado ay issue na ito? Tama ba yun?” the LP said in a statement.
According to the opposition party, in the first place, Robredo was not running in the upcoming elections.
It said therefore the “pag-atake sa kanya gamit ang fake news at paninira ng mga Marcos ay pagtatangkang ibaon ang mga usapin ng panloloko, pagnanakaw, at kapalpakan na kinasasangkutan ng mga kandidato nila sa Hugpong.”
“Ang dapat na nagsasalita ay ang kanilang mga kandidatong tumatakbo para sa Senado,” the party said.
It said what should be talked about are the things Filipinos are looking for answers to: “absence of jobs, high prices, killings and corruption.”
The Davao mayor had urged Robredo not to comment about honesty, saying her honesty herself has been questioned since Day 1 of her term as vice president.
She noted Robredo was “not called a fake VP for nothibg” as she faces an electoral protest for “massive cheating” in the 2016 polls.
Duterte was referring to former Senator Ferdinand Marcos’ protest who ran against Robredo in 2016.
Robredo was declared the vice president by only at least 200,000 votes.
Duterte said Robredo has also “refused to answer accusations” she had a relationship with a married man.
“The reason why good moral character is not a requirement to run for Vice President is because we have so many Leni Robredos in this world,” she said.
“And if she insists in saying that you have to be honest to run for public office, then she must say goodbye to her dreams of becoming President,” she added.
