(Eagle News) — Almost every day the country is experiencing light earthquakes.
Although the light quakes do not cause any damage, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) explained that these small quakes could signal a strong earthquake.
PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum explained that the light quakes were due to the frequent movements of the active fault lines.
In line with this, Solidum encouraged the public to visit their website or to download the mobile application PHIVOLCS fault finder where they can see if an active fault line was near their homes.
Solidum also invited the public to participate in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill set today, June 21. The earthquake drills will be conducted at its main ceremonial sites in San Mateo, Rizal and other regions in the country.
Aside from this, the International Search and Rescue Group Exercise will conduct simulation exercises that will help local responders if a strong earthquake happens in Metro Manila.
