Liven up your space with indoor plants

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, July 13) – Tired of your dull surroundings? Looking for a creative way to lighten up your personal space? Why not try indoor plants?

Of course, there are some important things to consider before you start your very own indoor garden. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a green thumb. You don’t actually need to do much. Just ensure that you get the proper mixture of temperature, light and water and your plants are sure to thrive.

When it comes to Indoor plant 9watering your indoor plants, here are some helpful tips to remember:

1. Make sure to water your plants thoroughly.

2. The water should be at room temperature.

3. Make sure that your pot has drainage holes in it.

Lighting is also important as plants use light for photosynthesis. Make sure that you place your plants near to a natural light source as possible. But remember, you should also avoid placing them under direct sunlight, especially during hot periods.

You should also choose the container of your indoor plants carefully. Almost anything can be used as a container for plants. You should consider lightweight containers made from resin, fiberglass and plastic. They are easy to move around and because the material is not porous, it absorbs less moisture, leaving more for the plants.

Remember to check houseplants for diseases or pests before buying them. To be perfectly sure, isolate them for two weeks. You should also regularly inspect both sides of the leaves for signs of bugs or diseases.

What if despite your best care, your plant still dies on you? Don’t worry. Actually, it’s difficult to tell if plant are actually dead because they don’t exhibit vital signs. If your plant loses all of its leaves, or all of its leaves turn brown, don’t panic. Your plant can still be alive. Check if the stems and roots are pliable and firm and has a green cast in them.

If the roots are still good but the stems are dead, there is hope that the plant can regrow from its roots. Cut away the stems a third at a time. If you find a living stem, try to leave as much as possible. Place it in an area where it will get half of the needed amount of sunlight and only water the soil when its dry. The plant should recover in a month or two.

Another secret  in taking care of your indoor plant is music. Yes, plants are scientifically proven to respond to music. Of course, not every music will work. Plant experts recommend classical music over rock music.

Indoor plants are the way to go to bring life in your personal space.
