Locsin to make first official visit as DFA chief to China next week

(Eagle News) – Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., is set to make an official visit to China for a meeting with his counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, next week.

Locsin’s visit is set from March 18 to 21, his first trip to China as the Philippines’ top diplomat, according to Department of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement, the DFA said that Locsin and Wang Yi will “hold a bilateral meeting to discuss the strengthening of the friendly relations between the Philippines and China in the spirit of mutual respect and through enhanced functional cooperation.”

“Beyond mutual benefit across the broad scope of bilateral engagement, both Ministers will also discuss ways to advance the larger goal of bringing about peace and prosperity to the region,” the DFA statement said.

In November last year, China’s Presidenr Xi Jinping made a historic visit in the country, the first in 13 years from a Chinese president.
