Signal No. 1 hoisted over Surigao del Sur, northern Davao Oriental because of “Vinta”
(Eagle News) — The low pressure area monitored east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur has developed into a tropical depression, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to hoist Signal No. 1 over some places.
In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said the new weather disturbance that comes on the heels of “Urduja” has been named “Vinta.”
As of 4 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was located 735 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
“Vinta” is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
It is forecast to move west at 20 kilometers per hour.
Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Surigao del Sur and Northern Davao Oriental.
PAGASA said scattered to widespread rains are expected over Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao within the next 24 hours.
“Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides, and (must) coordinate with their respective local government and disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said.
It added fisherfolk and those with small seacraft should not “venture out over the seaboards of Eastern Mindanao due to the moderate to rough seas associated with the approaching tropical depression.”
