LTFRB: No surcharges for Uber customers

(Eagle News) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has banned Uber from implementing surcharges to  customers passing through  specific toll gates in Metro Manila.

In an advisory on Thursday, the LTFRB said Uber has been directed to file a position paper to the agency for the agency board’s deliberation instead.

Earlier, Uber announced the surcharges “on top of the fare and toll fees” starting December 7, Monday.

It said the surcharges–which are aimed to “cover the costs” of partner-drivers “in a sustainable manner”—applied to those riding Uber vehicles on Skyway and C5, among others.

Uber said an P80-surcharge would be implemented if an Uber vehicle used as entry points Skyway, Magallanes or C5; and exited to either Bicutan or Sucat.

A P100-surcharge would apply to customers riding Uber vehicles  that would use as entry points Skyway, Magallanes or C5; and exit to either Alabang, Filinvest or Susana Heights, Uber said.
