LTFRB to passengers: ‘Be vigilant’

SAN FERNANDO CITY, March 21 (PIA) –The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office 1 has urged passengers to be vigilant so they can report any form of abuse by public transport owners and operators.

“All violations have a corresponding sanction or penalty as imposed once proven,” Lawyer Veronica T. Peralta said.

Those who do not post fare rates, wear the prescribed uniform (light blue shirt with collar, long pants and rubber shoes for jeepneys and white polo or shirt with collar, long pants and rubber shoes for buses, except when they have their own company-prescribed uniforms), nor show markings that show the case number with franchise,  route and operator contact number, will be charged P5,000 if it is the first offense.

Those who do not give students the discounts due them will also be charged P 5,000 if the offense was committed for the first time.

Peralta noted that student discounts were not based on a national law but on a regional memorandum which is applicable only during school days, and not during holidays and weekends.

Those who also refuse to give persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens the discounts due them, and those who do not post the  international symbol for accessibility will be charged P50,000, Peralta said.

For queries and complaints, the public may contact LTFRB through its office number (072) 242-5171 or mobile numbers 0917-5501342 and 0998-5401342. Their Viber hotline is 1342.  (JNPD/MPA/PIA-1, La Union)
