(Eagle News)–The Luzon and Visayas grids will be on yellow alert on Thursday, April 25, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said.
According to the NGCP, the alert will be in place over Luzon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The NGCP said four plants have been on forced outage since 2023, three between January and March 2024, and 12 since April 2024.
One plant is running on a derated capacity.
According to the NGCP, these make for a total of 1,424.3 MW unavailable to the grid, with available capacity in Luzon pegged at 14,568 megawatts (MW) and expected peak demand at 13,941 MW.
Meanwhile, the Visayas grid will be placed on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., the NGCP said.
The NGCP said one plant has been on forced outage since 2022, two since 2023, two between January and March 2024, and 19 since April 2024.
Twelve others, meanwhile, are running on derated capacities, “for a total of 670.8MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.
Available capacity on the island is at 2,829 MW while expected peak demand is pegged at 2,555 MW.
The NGCP said a yellow alert means the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
