(Eagle News)–The Makabayan bloc on Thursday, July 12,said it was open to “uniting” with Vice President Leni Robredo, who expressed willingness to lead the opposition against President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Ang Makabayan ay bukas na makipagkaisa at makipagtulungan sa lahat ng handang lumaban sa mga kontra-mamamayan at kontra-mahirap na patakaran ng administrasyong ito na kinakatawan ni Pangulong Duterte,” ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio said.
According to Tinio, it was “more important now” for opposition forces to make a stand against Duterte and his administration, and the alleged looming dictatorship.
“Finally, titindig na bilang opposition si Vice President Robredo,” he said.
Robredo has said she was willing to take on the role provided certain concerns were threshed out.
These concerns include the opposition’s slate in the coming elections.
She said she hoped the slate would come out by September, prior to the filing of certificates of candidacy.
When asked to comment, Duterte said Robredo would never be ready to govern due to “incompetence.”
Robredo was Duterte’s housing czar but was later ordered to “desist” from attending Cabinet meetings.
She resgned.
