Malacañang condoles with victims of 7.1-magnitude quake in Mexico

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Malacañang on Wednesday expressed its sympathies to  the people of Mexico after it was hit by a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mexico, especially the bereaved families, who were hit and affected…,” Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said.

According to  Abella, although the Philippine embassy in Mexico was damaged, all the “embassy officials and staff are safe, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).”

He said they were “continuously monitoring the situation and are in touch with the leaders of the Filipino community in Mexico to check the condition” of fellow Filipinos.

Based on DFA records, there are 263 Filipinos in Mexico,  six of these in Mexico City.
