QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque dismissed rumors of an alleged coup d’etat against the leadership of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Roque also said that he had spoken with his close friends at the House of Representatives and that there was no truth to the alleged coup d’etat.
House Deputy Speaker Fredenil Castro for his part dismissed the rumors and described it as “kuwentong barbero.” He also said that the rumors of a coup d’etat have been going on for a long time, but that he had not seen any clear proof or move that would validate it.
“Alam mo naman na hindi lang ngayon ‘yan, noon pa yan na umuugong na may kudeta sa House of Representatives. Pero, personally, wala naman akong nakikitang movement o galaw, o wala naman akong naririnig na yung verifiable na talagang meron,” he said.
Castro said that he and the House speaker and other lawmakers have no friction whatsoever.
“We have a good relationship [with him],” he said.
