(Eagle News) – Malacanang has suspended work in all government offices and classes in all levels in Metro Manila due to bad weather brought about by storm “Egay. “
In a memorandum circular issued at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa announced the suspension of classes and government work upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Malacanang said all public and private schools were covered by the suspension.
However, not all work in government offices are suspended.
Those agencies whose functions involve the “delivery of basic and health services”, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital public services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the circular signed by Ochoa said.
The country’s weather bureau has raised the “yellow warning level” in Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan and Pampanga, which means flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
As of 11 a.m. Monday, PAGASA said tropical storm “Egay” has slightly weakened and is slowly moving northward. It now only has maximum winds of of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
“Egay” has also enhanced the southwest monsoon, bringing in more rains.
As of 2 p.m., July 6, Egay was estimated at 190 km Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
