Malacañang to abolish PCOO, to revive Office of Press Secretary

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Presidential Communications Operations Office is now set to be abolished.

PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said they are only waiting for the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte so they can commence the reorganization.

“On the desk of the President right now is the executive order reverting back to the Office of the Press Secretary,” Andanar on Wednesday, March 2 said.

Malacanang also clarified that only Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella can make official statements for the Palace, while Andanar’s duty will be confined to running the government media agencies and state-run media.

“In the exigency of service and in accordance with the authority of the Secretary… the content and messaging of the (PCOO), including the authority for the final release and distribution, shall hereinafter be under the supervision and control of the Presidential Spokesperson (Ernesto C.) Abella,” a department order signed by Andanar on February 27 stated.
