Mamasapano incident – To re-investigate or not to re-investigate

QUEZON City, Philippines (January 22) – Senate’s reopening of investigation for the 1st anniversary of Mamasapano incident has been received positively by the masses. The lives of the 44 men are still not justified. We all know the story, the timeline, and how the slaughter took place. But, what if there’s more to it, something or someone that is prime in presence to the case? Someone that should co-carry the blame?

It is not a secret that our justice system is dramatically slow – either because of  human error or alleged manipulation. Many rallies and vigils had happened and we’re just left with different versions of the story presented by various personalities (P-Noy, PNP, AFP,Espina and Napeñas).  All of us are also aware that one of them, is not fond of taking responsibility whenever he’s at fault, and tends to point fingers at his subordinates. He skipped the receiving rites of the Fallen 44 just to attend a car plant inauguration. He didn’t even mention them in his final SONA. Yes, it’s obvious. You know who I’m talking about.

Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE) said confidently that the President is “directly involved”, because according to him, he has the evidence to support it. He was with the survivors at the PNP hospital, and might have net the “golden” insider reports. He’s sure that it can “kill” the President. The bottom-line of JPE’s statement last January 19 is that P-Noy did not do anything to rescue the SAF.

Furthermore, the supposed aid of the government to the families of the victims seems to be false. No monetary aid or scholarships to the children of the fallen. Even if they grant these things, what the families want is justice. No other material thing in this world would worth as equal to a soul. The least good thing our government could give is punishment to the slaughters.

Until now, there are still no cases filed in court to prosecute those who are really responsible. It is just refreshing to know that in January 25 this year, new possibilities and credible angles of the stories might come up. No usage of the gift of the gab, just plain evidence. The lawmakers should do this right, not imitating the man who thanked his barber but left out his martyrs.
