Manila Times editor who criticized newspaper’s publication of “Oust Duterte plot” matrix resigns

(Eagle News) — The managing editor of The Manila Times has resigned after a matrix linking Rappler and other media outfits to an alleged plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte was published in the newspaper several days ago.

The resignation of Felipe Salvosa II came after he published social media comments against the decision to publish the matrix, which had come with a story written by Dante Ang, chairman emeritus of The Manila Times, himself.

Salvosa teaches at the University of Sto. Tomas, and is journalism coordinator there.

“A diagram is by no means an evidence of ‘destabilization’ or an ‘ouster plot,'” Salvosa had said in a Tweet.

He added it was “a very huge stretch for anyone to accuse (the Philippine Center of Investigative Journalism), Vera Files and Rappler of actively plotting to unseat the President.”

“I know people there and they are not coup plotters,” he said.

The Palace has, however, stood by the matrix, which also linked leftists such as Neri Colmenares and Carlos Zarate to the alleged ouster plot.

It, however, denied it was the source of the matrix given to Ang for the story.

In his story, Ang had said the matrix came from a “highly placed source” in the Office of the President.
