TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) — Filipino Boxer and Senator, Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, unveiled his new boxing gym to the media on Friday (November 25) located in the heart of Tokyo’s trendy shopping district.
The 37-year old world champion told reporters that he wished to share his talent with aspiring boxers.
“(I opened this gym) to help the people to do exercise and also the boxers to discover a good boxer, and I can share my, and also I can share my knowledge about boxing, and my talents. I can teach them,” Pacquiao said.
The gym was established by avid boxing fan and business man Yoshihiro Agata who worked with Pacquiao, and it will officially open to the public next spring, a spokesperson said.
Last July, despite holding the position of senator, Pacquiao announced that he would be returning to the ring after a short retirement.
He claimed the WBO welterweight title with a unanimous points victory over American Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas on November 6, his first bout since April.
The southpaw, winner of world titles in eight different weight divisions and the first sitting senator to win a world boxing championship, has not ruled out fighting again.
“I feel lonely and sad because I no longer active in the sport that I love, so I decided to and I think about it, I can still fight and my body is still okay so I decided to come back and I’m here, my journey is continued,” he said.
Pacquiao who has a 59-6-2 win-loss-draw record, said that he would like a rematch with retired American Floyd Mayweather Junior who beat him last year.
