(Eagle News) — The Marawi City government is planning to pass an ordinance to ensure that the lessons  from the Marawi siege will not be forgotten.

“Iniisip naming maganda itong tiyempo every year, na maisapuso sa mga tao ang kahalagahan ng kapayapaan,” Task Force Bangon  Marawi Field Office Manager Assistant Secretary Felix J. Castro, Jr.Assistant Secretary Felix Castro said in a press conference on Wednesday, May 23.

His announcement came on the same day members of the Maute group and the Abu Sayyaf group attacked the capital city of Lanao del Sur a year ago.

The attack prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao.

Following the deaths of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and Maute terror group leader Omarkhayam Maute, Duterte declared the city liberated from the clutches of the terrorists months after the siege which led to the deaths of over 100 soldiers and policemen.

“Kung minamahal natin ang kapayapaan, sigurado pong di na mangyayari muli ang nangyari last year,” Castro said.
