(Eagle News) — Marc Pingris on Tuesday, July 4, apologized for his selfie after the brawl between Gilas Pilipinas and the Australian team during a World Cup qualifier on Monday, July 2.

“I sincerely apologize to everyone who were affected by the selfie that I took during the break of the Gilas Pilipinas vs. Australia game. While I honestly meant no disrespect to anyone, I realized that the timing was inappropriate,” he said in an Instagram post.

According to Pingris, the “unfortunate incident” has taught him a “valuable life lesson, particularly on the need to be circumspect in such situations.”

“(I) will do my best to conduct myself better especially in my support of the Gilas Pilipinas National Team. Sorry talaga tao lang talaga ako nagkakamali patawad po sa lahat,” he said.

Pingris took the selfie with members of Gilas who figured in a brawl with the Australian national team seconds before.

The picture, which he has since deleted from his Instagram account, drew flak from some, who called him insensitive given the situation.
