Marikina river’s water level starts to go down; warning down to second alarm

(Eagle News) — The water level in Marikina river continued to go down as the rains stopped Saturday night, August 11, and stood at 17.9 meters — below the 18-meter critical level — as of 7 a.m. Sunday, August 12, prompting the Marikina city government to lower the warning to second alarm from third alarm the previous night.

The water level started going down after 10 p.m, Saturday. From a high point of 20.6 as of 9:58 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, it began its downtrend and was recorded at 18.9 meters as of 5 a.m. Sunday, August 12.

After an hour, at 6 a.m., the water level further went down to 18.4 meters; it decreased further to 17.9 meters an hour later, at 7 a.m.

The Marikina city government had conducted forced evacuations since the Marikina river’s water level reached the critical point of 18 meters at 4:57 p.m. on Saturday, when the water level was recorded at 18.1 meters.

Waters quickly rose and was recorded at 18.9 meters as of 6 p.m. An hour later, at 7:02 p.m., the Marikina river’s water level reached 19.4 meters.

At a nearby mall in Marikina river, the water quickly entered its premises, spilling from the river.

The waters slowly receded receded when the rains stopped.
