UPDATED: “Maring” maintains its strength; Classes on Tuesday, Sept. 12, are suspended in some areas

(Eagle News) — Tropical Depression “Maring” maintained its strength as it moved in a west, northwest direction, prompting some local government units to suspend classes on Tuesday.

In its 11 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the eye of “Maring” was now 190 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.

Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Rizal, Pampanga, Bulacan, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pangasinan, Aurora,  Metro Manila, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and northern Quezon including Polillo Island.

“Maring” is expected to move west, northwest, making landfall on Tuesday afternoon over  Aurora province.

Several local government units have declared a suspension of classes at all levels for Tuesday, Sept. 12, in anticipation of the inclement weather.

These are Rizal; Caloocan; Manila; Paranaque; Mandaluyong; Batangas; Marikina; Muntinlupa; Quezon City; Laguna; Las Pinas; Imus, Cavite; Bacoor, Cavite; Dasmariñas, Cavite; Valenzuela; Makati; Taguig; and Pateros.
