Measles cases spike in Western Visayas; over 1,000 cases recorded

(Eagle News) – More than a thousand cases of measles were recorded in Western Visayas.

Based on the data of the Department of Health, the number of suspected measles cases increased to 1,068 from January to March 7 this year. This is higher compared to the 52 reported cases in the same period last year.

So far, there were four recorded deaths due to measles: three from Negros and one from Antique.

Negros Occidental still has the most cases with three hundred ninety six (396).

Most of the reported cases are from the towns of Calatrava, Murcia, Sagay City, Himamaylan City and San Carlos City.

The province of Antique has 213 cases; Iloilo province with 152; Bacolod City 124; Aklan 68, Iloilo City 51, Capiz 38, and 11 in Guimaras.
