TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) — Kei Komuro, who is set to be engaged to Japanese princess Mako, spoke to reporters on Wednesday (May 17) morning after national broadcaster NHK reported their upcoming betrothal on the previous evening.
The couple who are both 25, met about five years ago at an event about study abroad programs according to local media. Komuro told awaiting journalists that he will be able to “talk more when the time is right.”
Princess Mako and Komuro are classmates from their time at International Christian University in Japan.
Japan’s Imperial Household Agency declined to comment.
