World Mental Health Week is observed on the second week of October every year, to raise awareness about mental health issues around the world.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Mental health in the workplace.”
With majority of our adult life being spent in the workplace, we have to make sure that our working environment is good for our mental well-being.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), our experience in the workplace is one of the factors that determine our overall well-being. That is why employers and managers are asked to promote mental health in their respective workplaces, provide support to employees who have mental disorders, and ensure the health of their workers, thus boosting their level of efficiency.
Happy and contented employees often result in a positive workplace atmosphere and higher productivity. A negative working environment, on the other hand, may lead to physical and mental health problems, harmful use of substances or alcohol, absenteeism and loss of productivity.
Here are some steps we can take to ensure that we remain mentally healthy in the workplace!
