(Eagle News) — Expect a price incease in your electricity bill this month.
According to the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), it will increase power rates by 29 centavos per kilowatt hour effective this July.
This price increase is due to the increase in the generation charge by 34 centavos, which is in turn due to the high price of the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM).
This is also the result of the high generation capacity last June compared to the previous months.
With the price increse, the electricity bill of a typical household consuming 200 kWh will rise by about P58.
But Meralco maintained its customers have had a cumulative reduction of P108 in their bills because of power rate adjustments in May and June.
“At P8.61 per kWh, this month’s rate is lower by P0.77 per kWh compared to July 2015’s P9.38 per kWh,” it said.
“It will be recalled that several power plants went on outage in June,” it said.
