Several areas in Region 6, 10 under ECQ from Aug. 1 to 7
(Eagle News) — Metro Manila will remain under a general community quarantine with heightened restrictions from August 1 to 15.
Based on President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ resolution, Iloilo City and Iloilo province in Region 6, and Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City in Region 10 will be under the enhanced community quarantine classification from August 1 until August 7.
Ilocos Norte in Region 1; Bataan in Region 3; and Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City in Region 7 will be under a modified enhanced community quarantine from August 1 until August 15, 2021.
The classifications for August were announced after the OCTA research group recommended a “circuit breaker” lockdown amid the surge in COVID-19 cases reportedly due to the Delta variant.
The Department of Health itself had warned daily COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila could reach 11,000 by the end of September if health protocols are not followed.
The DOH has said the Delta variant could be up to 60 percent more transmissible.
A Delta variant-positive person, it said, can infect up to eight people in one sitting.
An Alpha variant-positive person can infect three to four people.
