(Eagle News Service) — The New People’s Army is losing three members every day, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said.
Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Eastern Mindanao commander, made the comment on the sidelines of ceremonies held for the surrender of 190 rebels on Tuesday.
The 190 represent the third batch of rebel-surrenderees so far.
Among those who surrendered was “Efren,” who was a member of the rebel group for 20 years, and who even became a spokesperson.
According to Madrigal, based on their information, two of these three surrender to the authorities.
The remaining member, he said, either gets arrested or is killed.
President Rodrigo Duterte called off peace talks with the communists last year.
He later declared the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army as terrorists. Mar Gabriel
