PRAGUE/MIAMI – After 42 years, the Miss Universe title was once again bestowed on a Filipina. Pia Wurtzbach was recently proclaimed as the 64th Miss Universe in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a majestic diamond crown estimated to be worth USD 300,000 produced by renowned Czech Republic company DIC – Diamonds International Corporation. The crown is made up of 311 pieces of diamonds, 5 pieces of blue topaz, 198 pieces of blue sapphire, 33 pieces of crystal, and gold.
The production process of the 2015 Miss Universe diamond crown, designed to emulate the Manhattan skyline, took approximately 4 months, and combined the traditional techniques of Czech glassmakers and the best jewelers, cutters and polishers from the Czech Republic.
Aside from jewelry production, the Czech Republic is famous for its cut crystal, more commonly known as Bohemian Crystal. As a testament to their ageless elegance and beauty, large traditional Bohemian Crystal Chandeliers are located in the Reception Hall of the Malacañan Palace, welcoming the guests of the President. According to Jan Vytopil, Chargé d’Affaires of the Czech Embassy, more modern designs of Bohemian Crystal Chandeliers made by Lasvit can also be found in some of the best hotels and residences in Metro Manila, like Raffles, Solaire or more recently the Global Tower in BCG.
