(Eagle News) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded the public that emergency vehicles have the “right of way” when responding to emergency situations.
The MMDA issued the reminder after videos of motorists arguing with the drivers of an ambulance and a fire truck have gone viral.
“Buhay po ‘yung nakataya. Pwede po silang mag-counterflow. Pwede po silang mag-swerve biglaan, pwede po silang mag-left-turn sa hindi tama. Kaya nga ho kapag nadidinig niyo ‘yung wangwang, ‘yung siren ng ambulansya, you have to give way,” MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago said.
Based on MMDA rules, a ticket for reckless driving may be issued to those who do not yield to emergency vehicles responding to emergency situations. Violators will also be fined P500.
This is apart from the ticket the Land Transportation Office may issue to the motorist for violation of a joint administrative order on allowing emergency vehicles to pass.
This carries a fine of P1,000.
