QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is planning to double the amount of fines for traffic violations to force motorists to comply with traffic rules and regulations.
MMDA officer in charge Tim Orbos believes that doubling the fees can be a very effective tool to deter and reduce road accidents in the metropolis.
If the scheme is to be implemented, the fine for violating common traffic rules will be as follows: P3,000 for the no helmet policy; speeding, P2,400; violations related to the motorcycle lane, P1,000; overtaking, P300; disregarding traffic signs, P300; number coding, P600; illegal parking, P1,000; jaywalking, P1,000; and smoke belching, P400.
