(Eagle News) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Friday suspended the entire fleet of a towing company after some of its alleged employees figured in an anomalous transaction with a motorist in Quezon City.
In a statement, the MMDA said it had placed the Compaq Towing Company under “indefinite preventive suspension.”
The statement was issued a day after Roberto Minosa posted a video showing three men supposedly from the company towing his illegally parked car on 20th Ave. in Cubao on his Facebook account.
In the video, another man who was inside Minosa’s car–apparently also an employee of Compaq— was heard giving the motorist the option of paying a “penalty outside of the office.”
The man said that should Minosa accede to this, he would only have to make a “statement” that said that he opted to pay “outside.”
“Yan, kung willing po kayo magbayad, gagawan po natin ng spot report. Gagawa nalang po kayo ng salaysay doon na binayaran niyo nalang po sa labas. Ang madidiscount niyo lang po dun yung ticket sa driver, yung sa lisensya. Di na po siya matiticketan dahil di na po siya aabot sa opisina,” the man said.
“(Yung salaysay ay) katunayan po na hindi namin kayo pinilit na magbayad sa labas. Baka sabihin na pinilit namin kayo na ganito,” he added.
From P4500 to P2100
It was unclear from the video if Minosa paid the amount, which was initially pegged at P4500 but was brought down to P2100.
This was after the motorist insisted that the tow truck–with plate number RJY-549–travelled only for several kilometers.
“Rest assured that the matter will be dealt with accordingly, and that the agency will never tolerate unscrupulous acts from any of its organic employees and accredited/deputized personnel as well,” the MMDA said.
“We enjoin Mr. Miñosa to file a formal complaint on the matter,” it added.
