MMDA to open APEC lanes in EDSA, Roxas Boulevard

QUEZON CITY, Oct. 1 (PIA)–The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to open dedicated lanes on the two major thoroughfares in Metro Manila for the exclusive use of delegates who will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in November.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino bared four innermost lanes on EDSA, two each on the southbound and northbound, will be designated as APEC lanes.

Tolentino said APEC lanes would start from Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City to the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

He explained that APEC lanes would start in Mandaluyong City because some of the delegates would be staying in the hotels in the area.

On the other hand, the entire southbound stretch of Roxas Boulevard will be open strictly open to APEC delegates only.

The northbound side of Roxas Boulevard will be two-way and will be open to the public’s use.

Tolentino said the APEC lanes in EDSA and Roxas Boulevard will be opened between November 16 to18.

He also said that more than 2,000 MMDA traffic personnel will be deployed during the APEC Summit set on November 18-19.

Malacañang has declared that Nov. 18 and 19 would be special nonworking holidays in Metro Manila.

It has also ordered the suspension of all classes in the metropolis from Nov. 17 to 20 to ease traffic flow.

Some 21 world leaders are expected to arrive to the country to attend the APEC Summit. (MMDA/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
