(Reuters) — Disney’s animated film ‘Moana’ topped the U.S box office for a third straight week taking the number one spot on Sunday (December 11).
The Walt Disney’s Pictures’ animated movie, which has topped the box office for the last two weeks, took in an estimated $18.8 million dollars in ticket sales for the weekend ending December 11, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
The critically-acclaimed film features Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Maui and music from Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Raucous festive comedy “Office Christmas Party” was hoping to knock “Moana” off the top of the box office but came in second place. It brought in about $17.5 million in its opening weekend.
Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, T.J. Miller and Kate McKinnon lead the cast in the humorous holiday movie about a manager whose CEO sister threatens to shut down his branch so he throws an epic Christmas party to try and land a big client as things get out of hand.
Harry Potter prequel “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” secured around $10.8 million worth of ticket sales this weekend, coming in third place at the box office.
Paramount Pictures’ “Arrival” took the fourth spot at the box office, bringing in an estimated $4.6 million this weekend.
Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” rounded out the top five, adding another $7.5 million to its box office tally.
