(Eagle News)—The Metro Rail Transit-3 on Tuesday, March 19, announced the shutdown of its operations for one week in April.
In a Facebook post, the MRT-3 said the shutdown from April 15 to April 21 was to give way to the annual general maintenance of the MRT-3 trains and others.
“Maintenance works that will be done during the one week suspension of revenue operations include rail grinding, rail cascading, replacement of turnouts, structural testing and other general maintenance activities on our trains, electrical systems and other MRT-3 subsystems,” the MRT said.
It said revenue operations will resume on Monday, April 22.
“We ask for the understanding and patience of our commuters as we take the necessary maintenance measures towards making MRT-3 more reliable and efficient, parallel with our comprehensive rehabilitation and overhaul of the entire system. Thank you,” the MRT-3 said.
On Monday, March 18, several passengers had to be offloaded after an MRT-3 train started to emit smoke.
The MRT-3 has since apologized for the incident.
