Five bicyclists were killed and at least four more were injured on Monday evening (June 07) after a pickup truck crashed into a cycling group in southern Michigan, local broadcaster WOOD reported.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told the news outlet that children may be among the injured, although it was not clear if any children were killed.
Matyas told WOOD that the driver fled on foot after the collision but was later taken into custody.
A representative for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office referred questions to Matyas, who did not respond to phone calls or text messages seeking comment. The Michigan State Police and Kalamazoo Township Police both declined to comment.
