Former President Corazon C. Aquino proclaimed the month of October as the National Statistics Month to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value that statistics provide to the different sectors of our society.
This year’s celebration highlights the theme: “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions towards AmBisyon Natin 2040.”
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the theme reflects the role of reliable statistics and factual information in determining appropriate strategies for tracking the Philippines’ progress towards its long-term vision of a stable, comfortable and secure life (matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay) for all Filipinos.
The PSA serves as the central statistical authority on primary data collection in the Philippines by conducting censuses on different sectors of the Philippine economy such as population, housing, agriculture, fisheries and business. It collects, compiles, analyzes and publishes statistical information on economic, social, demographic, political affairs and general affairs of the people of the Philippines. Likewise, it enforces the civil registration functions in the Philippines.
