(Eagle News) — The National Bureau of Investigation has said it was ready to help ensure the success of the government’s war on drugs, as the Philippine National Police gears for the re-implementation of Oplan Tokhang.
Ferdinand Lavin, NBI spokesperson, said they were ready if the Secretary of Justice, Vitaliano Aguirre, orders them to extend a hand in antidrug operations upon the instructions of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lavin said the NBI never stopped gathering information on drug suspects in the country.
He said the intelligence gathering continued even after Duterte suspended the implementation of the war on drugs, following the death of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo.
Jee was kidnapped from his house in Pampanga, and was killed by rogue policemen who used the government’s war on drugs as their cover last year.
A new team composed of morally upright policemen was as a result created to go after the drug suspects.
The PNP also set guidelines in antidrug operations to ensure that the war on drugs will not be used by rogue policemen to their advantage. (Based on a report from Erwin Temperante)
