QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The National Democratic Front (NDF) warned about bigger troubles stemming from the extension of martial law in Mindanao, saying the extension will mean more suffering for Moros in Mindanao.
The NDF said that the extension of martial law may result in farmers’ protests as well as actions against the government by the indigenous tribes in Mindanao.
“With an extended martial law, the Duterte regime’s naked fascism will target not just the Maute group but also the revolutionary movement led by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and NDF, other armed Moro groups as well as the struggling peasants, workers and other sectors in the island,” the NDF said in a statement.
The statement was made after President Rodrigo Duterte during his second State of the Nation Address defended the prolonged martial law in Mindanao.
Congress has approved the President’s proposal to extend martial law in the whole island group of Mindanao until end of 2017.
