(Eagle News) — A peace consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines and his companion were arrested on Wednesday night.
Tina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general, said Rafael Baylosis and another were nabbed by members of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group-National Capital Region, the intelligence services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, of the National Capital Region Police Office and the Quezon City Police District before 10 p.m. on Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City.
Baylosis’ companion was later identified as Guillermo Roque.
Recovered from the two were a .45 .cal pistol, 14 bullets and two magazines.
She said the kin of Baylosis has sought the help of the militant organization.
The two are now detained at the Criminal Investigation Detection Group in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Baylosis is the first key Communist leader to be arrested after President Rodrigo Duterte scrapped peace talks with the group last year.
The President noted what he said were the group’s atrocities–which included the killing of a baby—in terminating the talks.
