(Eagle News)—At least seven people were killed and 81 others were reported injured after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Monday, April 22.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesperson Edgar Posadas said in an interview over GMA’s dzbb that authorities were still looking for 24 people reported missing as of Tuesday morning.
Many of those, he said, were believed trapped after the Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga collapsed as a result of the quake.
He said NDRRMC was currently on blue alert, which means augmentation units from other agencies were being used to respond to incidents.
Several schools suspended classes today to allow for an assessment of the structural damage that the quake may have incurred.
These include the University of the Philippines Diliman, the University of Sto. Tomas, Emilio Aguinaldo College, among others.
The Palace also suspended government work today for the same purpose.
