MANILA, June 22 (PNA) — Floods and landslides caused by 10 days of continuous rains in Northern Mindanao caused nearly P2.5 million in damage to property while more than 4,000 people were affected, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.
In its report, the NDRRMC said continuing rains from June 1 to 10 caused several landslides and flash floods in Kibawe, Bukidnon which affected a total of 906 families or 4,683 persons.
Damage to properties was estimated at P2,390,115, including P1,297,000 in infrastructure facilities and P1,093,115 in agriculture.
The report said three houses were totally damaged with estimated cost of P44,000, while the road connecting Barangays Balintawak and Marapangi was damaged along with the Kibawe National High School and Magsaysay Road.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) Operations Center conducted damage assessments and needs analysis in the affected areas.
The local government of Kibawe facilitated the manual clearing operations of debris and manual filling of soil, limestone and other filling materials.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 10 continues to coordinate with the Bukidnon PDRRMC for further information on the landslide and flooding incidents.
Meanwhile, the MDRRMC Resolution No. 10 dated June 14, 2014 recommended to the Sangguniang Bayan the declaration of state of calamity in the town. (PNA)
