(Eagle News)- A disaster official denounced on Monday the attack of New People’s Army members on soldiers who were only conducting relief operations for those affected by “Urduja” in northern Samar.
“Naniniwala kami na pinaglalaban lang (ng mga sundalo) ang welfare ng ating mga kababayan..Tigilan ang pananambang sa mga tumutulong sa kapwa Pilipino,” Romina Marasigan, spokesperson for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said.
Marasigan was referring to Sunday’s incident that saw two soldiers injured.
According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 50 NPA members attacked its personnel from the 20th Infantry Battalion (20IB) who were providing relief to the typhoon victims in Barangay Hinagonoyan, Catubig town.
The 20 IB has said the atrocity was a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law. (With a report from Mar Gabriel, Eagle News Service)
