Neda: “Upper-middle income” status for PHL possible by end of 2019

(Eagle News)–The Philippines can achieve upper-middle income status by the end of 2019, the National Economic Development Authority said.

Neda said in its Socioeconomic Report 2017 launched on Tuesday that this was possible because of the country’s “strong economic growth performance..in 2017..”

The country was also able to achieve gross national income per capita growth rate of 4.8 percent, which Neda said was higher than the target of 4.5 percent.

Neda Undersecretary and officer-in-charge Rosemarie Edillon said 2019 is earlier than the target date specified by the 2017-2022 Philippine Development Plan.

“The challenge is making sure that this growth is really inclusive, that this one really lifts everybody up,” Edillon said.
