New DOJ chief to focus on President Duterte’s marching orders

MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — New Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II gave assurance that he will focus on three matters included in the “marching orders” given to him by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

In his first day in office, Aguirre said he is serious in the campaign against corruption in the agency, as well as illegal drugs and heinous crimes.

The new DOJ chief admitted that it cannot be denied that there are some corrupt individuals in the agency, adding there are information reaching him on who are the officials and employees who are allegedly tainted with corruption.

Aguirre said he is ready to form a team, with the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which will focus on the high-profile cases against DOJ personnel who are involved in corruption.
