(Eagle News) — The National Food Authority (NFA) is now closely monitoring the country’s rice situation and taking necessary actions to stop rice hoarders and cartel protectors.
This came after President Rodrigo Duterte gave a stern warning to rice hoarders and cartel protectors during his third State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 23.
Although the NFA has insufficient funds for intelligence, NFA Spokesperson Rex Estoperez said that the agency assigned a monitoring team that will monitor the stock of rice in the country.
Estoperez said that NFA officials are cooperating with other agencies and government units to stop those who are hoarding rice.
“Yung sinabi ng ating Pangulo, [although] we are doing this regularly, siguro [mas] paigtingin din natin yung ating monitoring sa sinabi ng Pangulo na may hoarders. Sabi nga nya eh, hindi basta-basta yun. Ibig sabihin talagang ipapatupad kung ano ang dapat ipatupad na batas para sa mga ito,” Estoperez said during an interview over Net25’s Agila Balita Alas Dose.
