AFC Offensive Player of the Week: Deshaun Watson, QB, Houston Texans
Watson came to play this past Sunday, torching the Tennessee Titans defense with 4 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown, completing over 70% of his passes for a total of 283 yards. Watson looks to be on pace to be a candidate for rookie offensive player of the year in the NFL.
AFC Defensive Team of the Week: Houston Texans Defense
The Texans Defense was a huge contributor to the 57-14 drubbing they put on the Titans Offense. Houston caused a total of 4 interceptions with 1 causing a defensive touchdown.
NFC Offensive Player of the Week: Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams
You’re a happy fantasy owner if you started Gurley in your lineup this week. Gurley had himself a day against the Dallas Cowboys, putting up video game-like numbers, rushing for 121 yards on the ground and receiving almost 100 yards through the air. This running back proved that he could do it all this past weekend.
NFC Defensive Team of the Week: Seattle Seahawks Defense
The Seahawks Defense made it miserable Sunday for Colt’s quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Their defense caused 1 interception and 1 forced fumble, both resulting in touchdowns.
Teams Trending Up: Los Angeles Rams, 3-1, NFC
Coach Sean McVay was hired to get the best out of quarterback Jared Goff this season, and it looks like the new hire is working out so far. Goff and Gurley are reaching their potential with the new-look LA Rams, who beat the Cowboys in Dallas with score of 35-30. McVay, who is just 31 years of age, is working hard to make his team a contender in the NFC.
Houston Texans, 2-2, AFC
The Texans have found their quarterback! It makes you wonder how Tom Savage was starting over Deshaun Watson to start the season. Houston surprised all the pundits and talking-heads as they put up 57 points to only 14 points over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Houston’s defense has always been a strength, led by J.J. Watt. Watson and the other young offensive weapons have Houston fans excited for the remainder of the season.
Teams Trending Down: Baltimore Ravens, 2-2, AFC
When the Ravens face the Steelers, it’s usually must-see TV. However this past Sunday, Coach John Harbaugh probably wished he didn’t see any of it. Starting the season with wins over the Browns and the Bengals, the Ravens have struggled the past 2 games. They were blown-out in London by the Jaguars, 44-7, which could be blamed on logistics, but they also had trouble putting up points against the Steelers, losing 26-9. Quarterback Joe Flacco, who has 4 touchdowns to 6 interceptions so far this season, summed it up pretty good by saying, “I sucked. It wasn’t good.”
Oakland Raiders, 2-2, AFC
The hottest team from last season looks like they can be in for a hard road with quarterback Derek Carr injuring his back against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Reports are saying that Carr may be out for at least 2 weeks, to as long as 6 weeks. Even when Carr was healthy, the Raiders offensive line has looked suspect, which may contributed their quarterback’s injury. Now Oakland fans have put their hopes in back-up quarteback, EJ Manuel to hold the ship while their starting quarterback gets healthy.
